Nobody in Visalia ever pulled into their driveway and said, look at that gorgeous slab. Concrete only gets noticed when it goes wrong: the lifted edge that catches your toe, the step that has dropped a half inch, the patio that holds a puddle for two days after a storm.
That is our whole job. We are locally owned, we work out of Visalia, and concrete is all we do: driveways, patios, stamped and colored work, slabs, sidewalks, steps, retaining walls, pool decks, repair, resurfacing and tear-out. Over 12 years of it now, from a back patio off Mooney to commercial flatwork with a striped lot on top. The outfit is Visalia Concrete Contractors, and I am Tony.
Here is what you get from my crew:
- We show up when we said we would, or you hear from me first.
- No pressure, no upsell, no talking to you like you have never held a shovel.
- Forms, scrap and washout leave with us.
- If something is our mistake, we fix it.
Our goal is simple: done right, done on schedule, priced fairly.
Keep going and you will find how each job actually gets built, what moves the price, where we work and the questions that come up before anybody signs. Then call (559) 316-5668 and I will come stand on it with you.
What happens when you call
When you call, you're getting me, Tony, not a call center in another state, and if I'm behind a screed at that moment, leave a message and I will get back to you. Then I come out and put a tape on it. I look at how the old slab cracked, where water sits after a Valley rain, and whether a mixer truck can get close to the pour or we're wheeling it.
Plenty of concrete driveway contractors price off a satellite photo. Square footage, demo, thickness, rebar, and truck access all move a concrete driveway replacement cost, so I'd rather see the site first.
The rest of this page walks through each pour we do, from a concrete driveway to stairs and pool decks, plus the towns we cover.
Concrete Driveway
Tire ruts at the garage door. Weeds pushing up through a crack that gets wider every year.
That means the base moved before the concrete did, and no patch fixes a soft subgrade. A concrete driveway installation starts underneath: we break out the old slab, regrade, compact the dirt properly, then pour four inches across the field and six where your truck turns in. Skip that and you're buying the same crack back in two summers.
What moves a concrete driveway replacement cost is square footage, how much old material has to leave the property, whether the truck can reach the pour or we're running buggies down a side yard, and whether you want a plain broom finish or stamped concrete along the borders.
Most driveways here are torn out and poured inside two days. You stay off it about a week.
Stamped Concrete
Flat gray slab out front, and every other house on the street has the same one.
Stamped concrete gives you the look of slate, cobble or wood plank without buying the stone or paying somebody to set it by hand. We press the mats in during the window after the pour when the slab is firm enough to hold a pattern and soft enough to take one, and in Visalia summer heat that window closes fast.
Color comes two ways: pigment mixed through the concrete, and a release powder that gives the shading and keeps the mats clean.
Rush the release or seal it too early and you get blotchy color and seam lines you can't unsee. Plenty of concrete driveway companies pour gray and call it a day.
Pattern, number of colors, and whether your concrete patio gets a border all move the price.
Concrete Patio
Chairs rocking on the patio, and a dark gap opening where the slab meets the back door.
A concrete patio that has pulled away from the house usually means water got under one corner and carried the base out with it. Leave it a couple of summers and the gap widens, the threshold sits proud, and you are paying to break out and haul off the old pour before we can start the new one.
What changes the number is square footage, access (hose off the truck, or wheelbarrows through a side gate), thickness, and whether we are tying in steps or a short concrete retaining wall to hold a grade. Finish counts too: a broom finish is simpler than stamping that has to match a stamped concrete driveway out front. Plenty of concrete driveway companies treat the backyard as an afterthought. We do not.
Concrete Retaining Wall
Dirt sliding onto the walkway. A wall leaning out at the top, cracks stepping through the block.

A concrete retaining wall holds back tons of wet soil, and the ones that fail almost always failed at drainage. No gravel behind them, no perforated pipe, no weep holes, so our winter rain turns the clay into a slow hydraulic press. We dig the footing below grade, tie steel into the stem, backfill with drain rock and run pipe out to daylight where you can see it working.
Height, length, how close we can get a mixer, and whether an old wall has to come out first are what push the price around. Leave a leaning one alone and you pay for the wall plus what it takes with it: a concrete slab, a planter, the edge of your concrete driveway. If there's a stamped concrete driveway above it, we'll finish the face to match.
Concrete Slab
A corner of the pad has dropped. Water sits where it used to run right off.
A concrete slab that sinks at one corner usually means the ground under it was never properly compacted, and rain has been washing the fines out from underneath ever since. Leave it and the crack widens, the edge crumbles, and you're paying for a tear-out instead of a straightforward concrete repair.
We pour four inches over compacted rock for shop floors and RV pads, six where a truck sits, with mesh or bar tied in and control joints cut the same day so the slab cracks where we decide it should. Size, truck access, how much dirt has to come out and the finish are what move the price. A broom finish runs cheaper than carrying an exposed aggregate concrete driveway look across a back pad.
Concrete Repair
Cracks you can drop a dime into, and one corner sits lower than the rest.
Concrete repair on a cracked concrete driveway is mostly about what's happening underneath it. A hairline crack lets water down to the dirt, our clay swells and shrinks with every irrigation cycle and every dry stretch, and by next summer that hairline is a broken panel with a lip you can trip on. Left alone long enough, a repair turns into a tear-out.
Size and depth move the price, along with how far the truck can get to the work and whether the slab has settled or just cracked. Matching an exposed aggregate concrete driveway costs more than patching plain gray, because the stone has to look like it belongs. If the slab is sound and only the top is worn, concrete resurfacing is the cheaper road.
Concrete Resurfacing
The surface is flaking off in patches and the gray underneath looks chalky.
Concrete resurfacing lays a new wear layer over a slab that's still sound underneath, which is how you save a concrete driveway with good bones instead of breaking it out. That flaking means the top quarter inch has given up, usually from sun and sprinkler overspray. Leave it and the aggregate starts popping loose, and then you're paying for removal and a fresh pour.
A concrete pool deck is the one I get called about most, since bare feet on a chalky surface in a 105 degree afternoon is nobody's idea of summer.
What moves the price: square footage, how much grinding and patching the old top takes, and whether you want it tinted the way colored concrete driveways are done.
Concrete Pool Deck
Coping lifting at one corner. Puddles that sit there long after everyone's out of the water.

A concrete pool deck takes abuse nothing else on your property does: chlorine, sunscreen, wet feet, and an afternoon hot enough to make bare slab feel like a griddle. It isn't a concrete driveway, and nobody stands on one of those barefoot. If water sits instead of running away from the shell, it works into the joint and under the slab, and that movement is what pops coping and cracks the deck.
We form a gentle fall away from the water, pour four inches over clean rock, and finish with a broom or a texture that stays grippy wet. Color goes in the mix, the same way we do colored concrete driveways. Size and shape move the price most, then access for the truck, then whether the old deck needs concrete removal first.
Concrete Removal
Slab sitting low at one end, weeds coming up through the joints, chunks that rock when you step on them.
Concrete removal is where we start when a slab is broken into pieces that float independently. We saw it into sections, break it with a hammer, lift it out with a machine where there's room, and haul the debris off the property. Once a concrete driveway has gone that far, concrete driveway repair is a patch on a patch, and you'll be looking at the same cracks by next summer.
What moves the price is thickness, whether there's wire mesh or rebar inside fighting us, and how close we can get a truck to the work. A tight side yard means wheelbarrows. Tree roots under an old concrete sidewalk add time too, since we pull those by hand rather than tear up your landscaping.
Concrete Sidewalk
One slab sits high, the next sits low, and somebody has already caught a toe on it.
A concrete sidewalk that lifts at a joint usually has a tree root pushing it up, or water has worked under the panel and carried off the support. Those big shade trees in the older neighborhoods are wonderful in August and hard on a walkway. Left alone the panel keeps moving, and a trip hazard out front becomes your problem the day the mail carrier goes down.
We cut out the bad panels, deal with the root, rebuild on four inches over crushed rock, and tie the new work into your concrete driveway and the concrete stairs at the porch so nothing steps up unevenly. Size, access for the truck and how much root work is hiding under there move the price most. Panels are usually a one day pour, and combining it with concrete driveway repair saves you money on mobilization.
Concrete Stairs
Front step nosing broken off. The rail wobbles when you lean on it.
Concrete stairs take more abuse than anything else we pour, since every pound of you lands on a two inch edge. Once the nose breaks off, water sits in the riser, the step starts shifting, and a shifting step is how people fall. We pour on a footing set below the loose dirt, tie the steel into the porch, and core the rail anchors instead of patching them in after.
Riser count, how much old concrete has to come out, and whether the side gate is wide enough for a wheelbarrow all move the price. Steps meeting a concrete driveway often get poured along with the cracked driveway repair so the approach matches. Treads get a broom finish for grip, never the shine of concrete polishing. Figure two days to form and pour, a few more before heavy traffic.
Concrete Polishing
Shop floor going gray and dusty, tire marks you can't mop out, old sealer peeling in patches.
Concrete polishing grinds that slab down with diamond tooling instead of hiding it under a coating that flakes off again in two years. We start with around 30-grit metal segments to open the surface, fill the pinholes and joints, run a densifier so the floor hardens instead of chalking, then step up through resin pads until you get the sheen you asked for. Two to four days on most garages and storefronts, and you keep off it the first night.
It only works over a sound slab. If the pad has movement in it, crack chasing or cracked driveway repair comes first, because polish over a live crack telegraphs straight back through. Square footage, how much glue, paint or mastic has to come off, and the gloss level are what move the price. And no, we won't polish a concrete driveway. Out in the sun and rain you want a broom finish, not a mirror.
Residential and commercial concrete contractor in Visalia
I work as a residential and commercial concrete contractor in Visalia, which means one day it's a concrete driveway for a family off Caldwell and the next it's a loading dock apron for a packing house. Homeowners, property managers, HOA boards, restaurant owners and general contractors all call the same crew. The smallest thing we pour is a mower pad or a two-step front stoop. The biggest is a warehouse floor.
What changes is everything around the pour. You want to know where to park while it cures and whether the dog can still reach the back gate. A property manager wants it phased so half the lot stays open and the trucks gone before customers show. So we walk it first: truck access, what the old surface sits on, whether concrete driveway resurfacing beats demolition.
Why Visalia homeowners and businesses choose us
Homeowners and businesses in Visalia choose us for two reasons that are easy to check: I have been finishing concrete here the best part of 12 years, and the work runs both ways, a back patio on Monday and a warehouse apron Tuesday morning. We are licensed, bonded and insured, and you are welcome to ask for the certificate.
My finishers are my own crew, not whoever was standing at the yard that morning. We pour ready mix with mesh or rebar where the load calls for it and cut control joints the same day, on a new concrete driveway or on concrete driveway resurfacing over a slab that is still sound underneath.
Square footage, thickness, access for the truck and the shape the old pad is in set the price. It does not move after the pour, and if something we placed goes wrong, we come back.
Areas we serve
The areas we serve run about half an hour out from Visalia in most directions:
- Downtown Visalia
- Green Acres
- Shannon Ranch
- Seven Oaks
- College Area
- Royal Oaks
- Ivanhoe
- Exeter
- Woodlake
- Tulare
- Lindsay
- Dinuba
- Orosi
- Cutler
- Tipton
- Hanford
- Lemon Cove
- Three Rivers
The older streets near downtown have narrow side yards and mature roots, so a concrete driveway there often gets formed and poured by wheelbarrow instead of chute, which adds a day. North of Riggin the tracts are newer, the ground is flatter, and the truck backs right up to the forms.
Foothill runs toward Three Rivers and Lemon Cove need an early start to beat the heat on the pour. A small repair or sealing concrete driveway out that far usually waits until we have another job nearby to pair it with, so the drive time doesn't outweigh the work.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find a concrete contractor I can actually trust?
Ask what goes under the slab, not just what it looks like on top. Any of the concrete contractors you talk to should be able to tell you how the rock base gets graded and rolled, that a residential concrete driveway is poured four inches thick and six where an RV or a delivery truck sits, and where the control joints land. We are licensed, bonded and insured, with the certificate available on request. Then ask to see a pour that is three or four years old. Everything looks good at a week.
Why is one quote higher than the other?
Size, thickness and how hard it is to get concrete to the spot you want it. Breaking out an old slab and hauling it off adds a day and a bin. A backyard pour behind a narrow gate means wheelbarrows or a pump instead of a chute. Stamped or colored finishes add hours of hand work. Soft ground has to be dug out and replaced with rock before anything else happens, and that shows up on the number too.
How long before I can park on it?
Walk on it the next day, put a car on it after seven days, and wait the full 28 days before anything heavy. Concrete keeps gaining strength that whole month. When we are pouring in a 100 degree stretch we start at first light and keep the surface damp for the first few days, because a slab that flash dries in the valley heat crazes on top and you see it forever.
Do I need to seal it, and is that the same as resurfacing?
Seal it, yes, about a month after the pour and then every two or three years. Sealing a concrete driveway keeps oil, sprinkler minerals and UV out of the top eighth of an inch, which is where the damage starts. Resurfacing is a different job: a sealer soaks into a surface that is still sound, while a resurfacer is a thin new wear layer troweled over one that has already gone rough or flaky.
Will your crew tear up my lawn and sprinklers?
We plan the access before the truck shows up. Plywood goes down over turf and existing flatwork, we find and mark irrigation lines where we are digging, and if a head or a lateral is in the path we cap it and put it back working. Our saw cutting is wet cut, so you get slurry to rinse rather than a gray film over the siding and the neighbor's cars.
Do you offer a warranty or guarantee for your work?
We do, and we go through exactly what it covers when we come out to measure. Concrete is one of those things where doing it right the first time is the cheapest version: proper base, proper thickness, joints in the right places, and a finish that is not overworked. That is what keeps you from paying twice. The specifics belong in a conversation on your property, not in a paragraph on a website.
Contact Visalia Concrete Contractors now
Contact Visalia concrete contractors now, while the schedule still has room, and I'll come out, walk the site with you, and measure what's really there. Bring me anything: a concrete driveway you've put off for three summers, a cracked walkway, a shop slab off Highway 198.
What moves the number is square footage, how thick we pour, whether we're breaking out and hauling off old concrete first, how close the mixer can get to the forms, and whether you want a plain broom finish or something with a pattern in it. Concrete driveway cost isn't one flat figure, it's your yard answering those questions.
We're on the phone weekdays, nine to five, and if it's the kind of job that won't hold, we'll come out on a Saturday. Leave a message and you'll hear back from me, not a call center.
